Cover Reveal: Messenger Of Fear by Michael Grant

Today I am excited to be taking part in the UK cover reveal of Messenger Of Fear by Micheal Grant. I was also lucky enough to get to ask Micheal one question. Check out my question and Micheal's answer as well as the awesome cover of Messenger Of Fear!

Book: Messenger Of Fear
Series: Messenger Of Fear (1)
Author: Micheal Grant
Pages: 416
Publisher: Electric Monkey
Release Date: 26th August 2014

Blurb:

Michael Grant, author of the New York Times bestselling Gone series, has created a powerful and brilliant narrative that examines the nature of good and evil in every human.

Mara wakes in a field of dead grass, a heavy mist pressing down on her. She is terrified, afraid that she is dead. Then a beautiful young man dressed in black appears. He calls himself Messenger of Fear.

This boy is able to move effortlessly through space and time. He also sees the darkness in human hearts. He sees the evils done: the destructive lies, the cruelty, the bullying, the violence. And if the world does not bring justice to those who do evil, he will. He offers the wicked a game. If they win, they go free. If they lose, they will live their greatest fear. Either way, their sanity will be challenged.

It is a world of fair but harsh justice. Of retribution and redemption. And mystery. Why was Mara chosen to be the Messenger’s apprentice? What has she done to deserve this terrible fate? She won’t find out until three of the wicked receive justice. And when she does, she will be shattered.

My Thoughts:

I really like the cover. I love the hand with Play or Pay on it I think it sums up the book perfectly. Play the Messenger of Fears game or pay!

Here is the question I asked Mr Grant and his reply!

If you didn't pass the Messenger of Fear's wicked game what do you think would be the greatest fear the messenger would make you live over and over again?

I have a definite dislike for the idea of being burned.  In fact I have a hard time even writing this answer because I don’t want to think about it.

What do you think of the cover? What would be your greatest fear you would be afraid to repeat over and over again? Comment Below!

Interview: Alyssa B. Sheinmel

Second Star
"A twisty story about love, loss, and lies, this contemporary oceanside adventure is tinged with a touch of dark magic as it follows seventeen-year-old Wendy Darling on a search for her missing surfer brothers. Wendy’s journey leads her to a mysterious hidden cove inhabited by a tribe of young renegade surfers, most of them runaways like her brothers. Wendy is instantly drawn to the cove’s charismatic leader, Pete, but her search also points her toward Pete's nemesis, the drug-dealing Jas. Enigmatic, dangerous, and handsome, Jas pulls Wendy in even as she's falling hard for Pete. A radical reinvention of a classic, Second Star is an irresistible summer romance about two young men who have yet to grow up--and the troubled beauty trapped between them."

Goodreads

Second Star is a contemp retelling of Peter Pan. Why did you choose this classic childhood story as the bases for Second Star?

Ive been fascinated by the world and characters of Peter Pen for as long as I can remember I even wrote one of my college admissions essays about Neverland! I was curious what kind of effect the timeless world J.M. Barrie had created would have on an organized, scheduled girl like me. Writing Second Star gave me the chance to invent my own Neverland (and as a bonus, I got to throw a type-A, recent high school graduate into that world).

The setting of Second Star is based on a beach cove and involves renegade surfers as the backdrop to the story. Why this setting?

Second Star is my first novel set in my homestate of California. Ive been wanting to write a story that takes place in California for a while now, and I loved the idea of recasting Peter Pan and the lost boys there instead of flying, they surf; instead of Neverland, they live in a secret cove by the beach. It just felt like the perfect fit for reinterpreting the original story.

The cover of Second Star is fresh and simple using great colour. Did you have any say in the design of the cover? What are your thoughts on the cover?

I love the cover! I didnt actually give much input on it, though Im very happy to trust the experts on stuff like that. My publisher has talented designers who created it, and I think they did a beautiful job.

Why should we pick up Second Star this summer in one sentence?

Wow, thats a tough question. Hmmm….Ill say that you should pick up Second Star this summer because its a dark, psychological reimagining of a beloved tale, but at the same time, its a romantic, sandy and salty summer read.

Deep in the English countryside, Marshwood has always been much more than just a house. It has been a place to escape to and a trap, the backdrop for elegant parties and a wartime hospital, an idyllic escape from trauma and unhappy marriages. When the roof starts to cave in and the money runs out, eighty-year-old Bella resists the pressure to sell and instead begins to peel back the layers of the past.

As this imposing house gives up its secrets of marriage, war and forbidden love, patterns begin to repeat themselves when Bella's granddaughter's childhood sweetheart returns from the war in Bosnia. Like so many before him, Jack comes seeking solace. But he also wants Isla, who is - who really should be - unavailable to him.

And as all three characters explore whether you can ever truly go back, the past and the present collide with shattering consequences . .

My Review

This is my second book by Natasha Farrant. In 2012 I read her YA book Things We Did For Love and I loved it, giving it 5*. So I thought I would pick up another book from this author and this time around it was an adult contemp book.

Some Other Eden follow's Isla, a married mum of two who is fed up with life. Step forth her childhood home Marshwood and her first love the one who got away, Jack.
I loved getting to know the protagonist Isla and her struggles and I really understood her reasons for doing certain things even if the people around Isla didn't really understand her actions sometimes.

I also loved hearing her Granna's story and going back in time to her forbidden love during the midst of World War 2.

Natasha Farrant really brings Marshwood and its surroundings to life and I really felt like I was at Marshwood feeling Isla's feelings and seeing Marshwood in all its beauty!

Overall Some Other Eden was a good adult comtemp read and after reading a few of Natasha Farrants' books I will certainly be reading more!

Waiting on Wednesday #7

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're excitably anticipating.

Between by Megan Whitmer

Between

When a supernatural freak of nature forces her family to separate, seventeen-year-old Charlie Page must turn to her frustrating (yet gorgeous) neighbor, Seth, to help reunite them. Seth whisks Charlie to Ellauria—a magical world filled with the creatures of myths and legends—and tells her of the Fellowship, the group charged with protecting mystical beings from human discovery. (All except Bigfoot: that attention whore is a total lost cause.) But when Charlie learns that she's under the Fellowship's protection herself, well, "stressed" is an understatement.

Ellauria should be the safest place for Charlie while the Fellowship works to find her family, but things in the mystical realm aren’t what they seem.

Magic is failing, creatures are dying, and the Fellowship insists Charlie holds the key to saving everyone. With her family still missing and the danger in Ellauria growing, Charlie doesn't know who she can trust. She's dealing with a power she never asked for, falling for a guy she can't have, and being forced to choose between her destiny and her heart. And if she chooses wrong, she could destroy magic forever.

Charlie may be in over her head.

Expected Publication: 29th July by Spencer Hill Press

My Thoughts:

I love this cover, I think it is one of my favourite covers this year and I think the story sounds really good!

Quick Reads Reviews

Lately I have started to read alot of novella's in between my books. I have liked being able to read some short adult books, as I don't read many adult books as I tend to stick to the YA genre. Below is some quick reviews of two short adult reads and one YA short read.

The Ghosts Of 2012 (Most Wanted)

Blurb: Joe is on for gold in the 2012 Olympics. When the UK is taken over by a military coup, it's not his problem. Then people start to disappear...

My thoughts:

I was really shocked by this book, it really made me think and the ending just made my heart stop!

The ghost of 2012 is a short hard hitting book that will have you questioning society and the lengths people will go to to achieve their goals.

A Sea Change

Blurb: Jenna is known as The Ice Cream Girl. She doesn't mind the name one bit. After all, it's a happy name, and there are far worse jobs than selling ice creams on Everdene beach.

Craig spends as much time as he can at the beach hut in Everdene he rents with a few of his mates. As a policeman, it is a restful change from his daily life, and he's surfing mad. One weekend he's down there on his own when he notices a girl on the beach. He's young, free and single and she catches his eye.

But on this particular summer weekend, both Jenna and Craig's lives are about to change . . .

My Thoughts:

This is a good quick read.

I thought from the blurb it was going to be an easy quick summery read but it had a serious side. The two main characters are both dealing with issues in their lives unsure of what to do in their situations.

I liked Veronica Henry's style of writing and will pick up more of her books. If you haven't read any of her books before this is a good one to start with.  Its a short, good read with engaging characters that Veronica Henry gets across perfectly in just 90 pages with a happy ending. I would love to see what she does in a full novel with her protagonists.

Soulmates by L.A. Weatherly

Soul Mates

Blurb: Beautiful and intriguing paranormal romance about two teenagers whose love is so special that nothing can keep them apart - not even time. Iris and Nate have dreamed of each other all of their lives. When they meet by chance in an abandoned house, they discover that their dreams were more than fantasy - they are soul mates, destined to be together. But someone or something is watching them, determined to tear them apart. Will Iris and Nate's love be strong enough to survive the test of time? Particularly suitable for struggling, reluctant and dyslexic readers aged 12+

My Thoughts:

I was really disappointed by Soulmates. I love L.A.Weatherly's Angel series and was hoping for this short novella to be as good.

The story is interesting but its really confusing in parts. I understand the need for suspense but it just didn't feel right, structure and pacing wise. Really disappointed to be giving it just 2*.

Leave me a comment below on these shorts. Have you any recommendations of more quick reads?

My Thoughts:

I like this cover. I like that is isn't real life models as that is what most covers seem to be now. I like the colours used and I like not seeing their faces as I can make my own opinion of what they look like when I read the book. I have noticed this on a few covers lately were you can't see the characters faces which I like!

Sunday Post #5

The Sunday Post
The Sunday Post was created by Caffeniated Book Reviewer this is a post where we recap on the going on's on the blog the week previous and the week coming up as well as the awesome books we have received, bought or been gifted for review!
I hope everyone has had a great week. I didn't post a Sunday Post last week as my mum was away on holiday and I had a few days of work so decided to relax and take a few days away from blogging. I used to feel guilty missing a few posts but since I started blogging again in May, I have a new perspective on blogging. I blog for fun and it is a passion of mine but I won't feel guilty anymore if I miss some posts! :)
Next week is going to be busy on the blog as I am posting a post everyday, something I haven't done since I started blogging again. I hope you will all stop by this week and check out the posts. :)
Next week there won't be a Sunday Post as I am going camping with some friends and am just going to relax. I hope everyone has a great reading week!

Discussion: Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsidian (Lux, #1)Onyx (Lux, #2)Opal (Lux, #3)Origin (Lux, #4)Opposition (Lux, #5)

In May I read the first four books in the Lux Series by Jennifer L Armentrout on a recommendation from my sister Kerry Ann @ Reading A Little Bit of Everything who is obsessed with these books and all thing's Jennifer L Armentrout and I am glad I did as I fell in love with them!

After I finished each book I needed to get my hands on the next one and the next as the story intensified and the romance electrified! My sister kindly recommended the series to me, so I thought I would pass on the recommendation to you guys! Here is why you should pick up the Lux series by Jennifer. L Armentrout!

*Note: Lux: Opposition the 5th and final book releases in August 2014 via Entangled Teen! *

What is the Lux series all about?

The Lux series' is a YA science fiction romance that revolves around protagonist Katy who moves to West Virginia right before her senior year and isn't too happy about it. To top it of she discovers she has a hot neighbour in the form of the breathtakingly hot Daemon but he turns out to be arrogant, "stab worthy" and pushes all Katy's buttons in the wrong way!

However Katy is attacked one night outside her local library and Daemon literally stops time to save her! Katy discovers Daemon isn't human, he's an Alien and not a green, slimy one but a hot dam one who she finds herself hating but falling for at the same time! And thus the story sets of on a roller coaster of action, love and twists and turns that will pull you along for the ride.

The Characters

The lead female protagonist in the Lux series is Katy. A feisty girl who doesn't take sh*t from anyone. Katy has a close relationship with her mum and would protect her with her life, not letting anyone hurt her, which I admire. Another great thing about Katy is she is a book blogger :) Who doesn't love a book blogger.

The lead male protagonist in the Lux series is Daemon. He is such an amazing male lead (he is one of my book boyfriends :) He is infuriating, annoying, arrogant, gorgeous, protective, he's flawed but this is what makes him Daemon and in my opinion he is amazing!

The Lux series doesn't just have amazing leads but has great secondary characters that you will fall in love with and ones you will hate right along with Daemon and Katy!

Why should you read the Lux Series?

You should read the Lux Series because it has everything you would want from a book. It has action, suspense, twists and turns, WTF moments, laughter, a sizzling romance and great lead and secondary characters! If you are looking for a book series to get hooked on and fall in love with, the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout is for you!

My thoughts: I love this cover. I haven't seen many covers with a simple picture of a normal looking girl they usually have big dresses and are very dramatic and dark looking. I love the simple look of this cover. The story sounds really good as well!
