His Reverie by Monica Murphy Blog Tour: Interview & #Giveaway

1) Where did the idea for His Reverie come from? Was there something particular that triggered the idea?

Well, there was a particular crime that's similar to the one that Nick's dealing with (though much more severe - the guy was in jail for YEARS). I was fascinated with the case and thought, what if...which are the usual jump off words for me to start plotting and planning.

Regarding Reverie, I watched a special on the 80s and it had a segment on Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. During the segment, they interviewed their adult son. All I could think was, how would it be having those two as your parents and going through that epic fall from grace?

I brought the two actual events together and bam - HIS REVERIE was born.

2) How would you describe the femal and male protanginist in less than 140 characters?

Reverie is sweet, innocent, hopeful, naive and in desperate need of growing up so she can figure life out.

Nick is a hardworking guy who can't catch a break. He's also just stubborn enough to get what he wants no matter how long it takes.

3) Why New Adult? New Adult has become a really popular genre. What do you think is the pull of New Adult for many people?

Well, HIS REVERIE is written as a mature young adult book but it's close enough to NA that I think the readers who enjoy my NA books will hopefully like this one. :)

I think the allure of NA for readers is that we can all relate to it. We've all gone through that moment in life (or we're going to if you're not old enough yet) where you're on your own for the first time. You're in your first relationship, working your first real job, going to college, having to make all of these important decisions on your own...and it can be both awesome and terrifying all at once. Your emotions are heightened and everything feels extremely drama-filled. We can all remember those moments fondly. Or not so fondly. Take your pick. But at least we can all sympathize.

4) Why should we pick up His Reverie?

I had a good time writing this book. It's Nick's story, not necessarily Reverie's. I always wanted to write a book that was almost strictly in the male POV and so I did. I sort of wrote this book for me, not for a publisher or with a deadline. This was a work of pure joy on my part and I really really hope readers will like it.

His Reverie

ABOUT HIS REVERIE:
I knew from the moment I first saw her she was the one. The only girl I could ever want.
The only girl I could ever love.
She is light.
I am darkness.
She is innocent.
I’ve done too much.
She is good.
I am bad.
She is my every dream.
I should be her every nightmare.
We come from different worlds. She’s…perfect. And I’m…
Not.
Somehow she wants me anyway. So we’ll grasp at what we can. We’re going to make this summer count. She’s my secret. And I’m hers.
The problem with secrets is they never last for long. And when others discover we’re together, they’ll do whatever it takes to keep us apart. All I know is: I won’t let them.
Because Reverie Hale? She’s mine.
